Hey I really like your channel! Thanks for the surveyor content!
Hi William, always happy to hear from you! We are working on some more long form content and explanation videos. We will be trying some new stuff out, so make sure you let us know what you like. - Nolan
Looks like a bottle of purple nailpolish.
We showed it to Rene's daughters and they had the same comment and wanted us to name it the nail polish!
Will the point file then be exported in ground?
Hi Dingla, we do not use Carlson as often these days, but I believe that is the case. You can always enable and disable Grid to Ground and make sure the export changes.
biased test, conditions are different for both receivers, software is not the same for both receivers, software settings unknown, software not from the manufacturer, constellations settings unknown, options of the receivers unknown, ambiguity settings unknown, accuracy unknown, ranges of the RMS unknown, misleading information.
Hi Jrr, not sure I completely agree with this comment. We do our best to provide the same conditions for the receivers. To do this we place our pole stand in the same location and place the receiver in the same hole on the stand. We do the tests back to back to ensure that this is the case and that any satellite change is minimized. We also use a base and rover setup with the same make and model as the base to give the receiver the best possible conditions. Both bases are set next to each other so there is no advantage there. Software has almost nothing to do with the fix time of the receivers. All RTK receivers compute a position on board the receiver, and transmit (in most cases over bluetooth) the position. The software does no computation towards the fix. It simply takes the reported lat and long position and translates it to the relevant coordinate system. On top of this, FieldGenius is not OEM software by Hemisphere. It is a third party company, much in the same way Carlson is a third party software company. As for accuracy and RMS values, in an effort to keep this videos shorter (I would love to make them longer and more in depth, but people don't watch that content and they are extremely time intensive to create) so we don't dive into the values here. However we did film a separate video on the accuracy and repeatability where we did do more of that: ua-cam.com/video/EgZuwKsxMRE/v-deo.htmlsi=DD4lx8Wq7pOnad9g. We have also done this test with many other receivers! Take a look here: ua-cam.com/play/PL-OAlKspUpSOWzetK0tAvypK6fOP_YuPb.html Let me know if you have anymore questions, or have any suggestions on how you think we can change the test! It can be a little hard to show the background work we do before the video to make the tests as fair as possible, and we have found most people simply aren't interested. Also feel free to email me at nolan@bench-mark.ca if you have any questions.
This is also why we have a 30 day money back guarantee with all of our RTK systems. We stand behind our equipment and will more than happily put it up against any other system on the market, whether we do the test or not.
When I first started using RTK we were happy to have 7 satellites! We chose our base locations very carefully for open skies and good radio path. We’ve gotten spoiled into believing those habits are no longer necessary.
Hi Dan, no kidding when I started with the S320s we had to be really careful with where we set the base up! You can get away with the base in a questionable location these days, but it makes a big difference in performance if you set it in a good location.
Can you talk about the rumors of these canopy capable GNSS chinese receivers that report FALSE FIXES? Compared to Trimble and Javad that do not? Maybe a video proving these are as good as those?
Hi Tim, At the end of the day any receiver is capable of producing faulty fixes, including Trimble and Javad. This is why at the end of the day, the best tool a surveyor has is their own brain. As good as the modern receivers are, just like any instrument or technology you have to know the short comings and how to mitigate them (Might be a video we are starting to work on...). Javad and Hemisphere (others do as well), allow you to use multiple independent and unique RTK engines to significantly reduce the odds of a false fix occurring and is something I would personally recommend in a receiver. We have done some testing of receivers from China, including Unicor boarded receivers, CHC, Emlid and Stonex units. A lot of these units will use older Trimble or NovaTel (Leica) boards, and perform as you'd expect. The new Chinese boards can definitely perform well in certain conditions, but we have seen some odd results. I haven't done enough testing myself to conclusively say one way or the other if they are bullet proof or suspect, your mileage may vary. I won't name any manufacturers directly, but I would personally recommend staying away from the ultra low cost units, at least for the time being, especially for legal applications (if you are going to use them at least ensure you do take care and double check your results). I won't claim people haven't been able to achieve great results with units like this, they most certainly have, but really look into who is backing up and guaranteeing the technology behind the board. As for Trimble, we have done some comparison videos to both the R12i and R10. I haven't had a Javad come through the shop, although we have had some of our customers swap their Javad's for Hemisphere units. I haven't heard any complaints about performance when comparing the Javad and Hemisphere units, with the general consensus being the Hemisphere is easier to use for their crews. Trimble R12: ua-cam.com/video/klqXmSGW-XE/v-deo.html Trimble R10: ua-cam.com/video/1RPeam1zcls/v-deo.html Let me know if you have any more questions, Nolan
Try it vs China gnss receivers Thanks
Hi Reyar, do you have any suggestions? It is tough to get them where I am.
@@benchmarkequipment try it with chcnav,tersus,and comnav/sinognss
@@benchmarkequipment I love how you do comparison!
I will see what I can do!
if the Brx7 is the same that the S631, what about the S900 of Stonex, i read that has the same Phantom P40 board, regards and excellent videos.
Hi FranJaurro, it depends on the receiver (I believe they marked the Hemisphere boarded receivers as S900A etc.). Stonex can no longer use the Hemisphere board (due to the CHIPS Act in the US, as Hemisphere is an American entity) and are using Unicore boards moving forward.
S631 - Normal or surefix mode for tests?
Hi Boss, In these tests we generally use Normal Fix mode.
Super awesome examples!
Thanks!
Hi! I've switched from Windows based field genius to android version, since my company upgraded gnss controller. The problem is I can't find this option in the android version. For example, I could easily read an angle between lines with this option directly in the field with Windows version, but I can't do the same on android. I'm I missing something? I would appreciate any help!
Hi Gold, Unfortunately, that feature has not been brought into the Android version yet. Your best bet is the Traverse tool for now. You can compute the angle between two points and use the X..Y notation to fill it in FieldGenius. I'll let the guys at MicroSurvey know you are looking for this feature.
@@nolanbetzner5313 Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I just read my comment again and I noticed something doesn't make sense: "i can't find this option" should be "I can't find some options". Sorry for that, I hope you can feel how frustrated I am, i didn't notice my mistake. There are many options missing, the above is one of them. I got in touch with the company we bought the controller from, they said they will look it up. I've sent an email to MicroSurvey, waiting for a response. What really bothers me the most is that we were supposed to upgrade, not to downgrade our tools and I read somewhere that the new android version has all the core features of older versions. Thanks again for your effort. I really appreciate your help.
Hi Gold, Not sure if you purchased from us, but I typically don't recommend upgrading from Windows at this time especially for full blown land surveying. Android is definitely the future, but it is still (extremely optimistic estimation as of 06/24) a year away from being "feature complete". It is tough, as there a lot of awesome android data collectors out there. The good news is they are updating it quickly but I don't have a timeline on that feature. I know they are working on adding math operations in fields (X..Y - 90 etc.) but I have no timeline.
@@benchmarkequipment unfortunately for me, we didn't get it from you. I live in Greece and my company bought it from a shop that have business with. I asked for upgrade because I use an old Foif controller that, among other problems, had all it's batteries bulged, I was afraid that someday they will explode. Couldn't find replacement batteries, equipment was old so I asked them to get a new one.
Hi Gold, unfortunately for the time being you'll have to hang on, or find another Windows tablet. Let us know if we can help with anything.
Hello Noel, How can I find the center of a Circle if I have surveyed 3-4 points on the circumference of the circle? Is there a way to find that?
Hi Hando, you may be able to use the arc tool to place a center point however, you may need to use a method similar to the one described here: www.instructables.com/How-to-find-the-center-of-a-circle/. You can use the intersection tool to find the middle. studio.ua-cam.com/users/videoCyWEPo6QVl4/edit?c=UCADMr1fMZsUMGw1HEGcQwiw Nolan
What aspect of the Hemisphere Tech allows the receivers to perform this well. I am finding that my s321 out performs the trimble r10 and r12s in conditions similar to what your tests were performed in..
Hi Boats, the biggest difference is the Athena RTK engine. It is what is filtering out the good and bad signals to give you the best performance. You should check out the video comparing the S321 to the S631: ua-cam.com/video/HnTd1MzE18Q/v-deo.html!
Ya’ll do such an amazing job of representing your product! This is a company who backs themselves
Hi William, glad to hear from you again! I have some more stuff planned this summer (just need to find the time). Keep your eye out!
Hi Nolan - do you have any insights into broadcasting a here solution from the s631 base logging raw data instead of ntrip corrections? Thanks!
Hi Kailey, do you mean over UHF or an averaged position? I am not sure what you mean by a here solution.
@@benchmarkequipment exactly! The average position
Hi Kailey, and this is with a software like FieldGenius or the Desktop software? Sorry for the late reply, UA-cam hid this in already replied.
@@benchmarkequipment I use fieldgenius for android. I know how to log raw data, I've used this video to configure the rover for broadcasting. I guess the missing part of the equation is to setup on the average position and post process the data. Thanks for your reply and thanks for your videos :)
Do the R12
Hi Gypo, We already have! Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/klqXmSGW-XE/v-deo.html
Hello I am using the Fieldgenius windows with my Gps While staking a line with 2 points, the line doesnt follow the slope for the elevation How can I do that?

Hi Orenadler, that is dependent on the network you are using. Try looking for one transmitting RTCM corrections. Preferably RTCM 3.2 or RTCM 3 MSM.
totally agree
the antenna height entered into the webui - is it measured to the bottom of antenna mount or to the top of the orange band? thanks
Hi Nate, You should be able to set the antenna height option in the WebUI (that is how it is for the S631). If no option exists, it should be until the bottom of the antenna mount.
Thank you for the reply - I used a measurement to bottom of antenna mount and it seems to be working correctly when checked.

Hello Nolan! I've seen a lot of bad arguments about using tilt compensation with GNSS in terms of precision. Have you guys already tested how precisethe IMU tilt compensation is compared to normal bubble leved GNSS shots? Can we trust tilt compesation for normall topos where the desired precision is around 2-4cm? Thanks!

@@benchmarkequipmentthanks for the options I would like to go with the first option but my question here is Once i change my scale factor to ground , should i change my my co ordinate system from utm to something else? I believe I should ,if not I can check it out in the field
Meant to say i would like to go with option 2
@@handoreparitosh5225 There is no need to change the coordinate system, as long as it matches the zone you wish to use. The scale will be applied to those coordinates.
@@benchmarkequipment if i chnge the scale factor at the start while creating the project, will that be fine? The default SF is 1 on the system and i will be chnging it to 1.0005 something
I'm ALWAYS here for Bench-Mark videos. You guys are next level! Thanks!
Thanks!
When you do this 1 point localization, i.e local drawing point 0,0,0. Then measure in the real world with GNSS where you want this 0,0,0 local point to be in say UTM cooridante system... is the 0,0,0 point MOVING to your real world location? Or is it just making a internal calculation in the background to SHIFT this 0,0,0 to your GNSS location point? Or is the GNSS measured point being offset and brought to the 0,0,0 point? Thanks!
Hi Tim, your GNSS point is always recorded in Lat and Long. This coordinate is then shifted to whatever you desired coordinate system is. So in essence, the 0,0,0 point is "shifted" to your real world point. (Little more advanced then that, but you would have to consult your local surveying association for the best method and exact math).
will it support Leica AP20 in future ?
Probably why best to buy pure Leica.
GeoMax is a sub-brand of Leica, with GeoMax getting any new products after. However, I am not sure about the timeline or the plan with the autopole.
What program were you using on the Mesa Data Collector?
XPAD. Can use MicroSurvey FieldGenius too. It's basically a modified Leica Robotic Total Station.
We use FieldGenius, but as Tim said XPad is also a great option.
I am having issues importing the DXF into my TSC7. It will work for the linework within the demo drawing that came with MS, but not the drawing I created, imported points into, and drew linework. I have saved the DWG as a 2000 autocad drawing but still no luck. Any ideas?
Hi is this into Trimble Access? How have the lines been saved?
Always great tips and workflows! Tkns
Do you have a video on how to change the number of observations on a shot before it is stored in field genius for android?
Hi Jack, I have added it to the list! Should see something in the next couple of weeks.
Is it possible to turn on Northing and Easting coordinate for each point shown on the map display like you can for the Elevation, ID, and Description??? Would be nice to see the coordinate readouts while moving the crosshair. Thanks!
Hi Tim, Unfortunately there is no way to have the northing and easting displayed on the screen. However there is one work around, and that is to bring in the coordinates with a dxf or other CAD file with coordinates on the drawing.
So would this be a good tool to let’s say translate elevation if there was a discovery that the instrument height was incorrect for a period of time? Or maybe if a total station was set up with the occupy point and back sight reversed in the data base?
Hi William, that is one of the most common uses I see for this tool (granted I work in tech support). I have a lot of folks who have used it when the rod height was incorrect. That being said, if you are using a receiver with tilt, this will not correct a bust in elevation, as you also have to factor in a number of factors on the receiver.
@@benchmarkequipment awesome thank you so much for the great content!
Very cool
please what software do you use for your post processing
Walneyo, there are a couple of different options for post processing. We used NRCAN's PPP for the processing in this case. We also regularly use GeoSolutions. Let me know if you have any questions: nolan@bench-mark.ca. - Nolan
Im trying to set up network rover using my phones hotspot and it will not connect. Any suggestions?
Hi Jason, Is this with an S631? What is the error that is thrown?
@@benchmarkequipment yes with mesa tablet. It says wifi connection failed. I know the table is connected with my phone hotspot already...maybe that's the issue?
@@jasonsmith2293 I would double check that you can actually load a webpage and that the hotspot is properly connected. Give us a shout at 1-888-286-3204, we should be able to get this going pretty quickly. Sounds like a Windows 10/11 issue.
Hello! Is there any way to calculate automatically combined scale factos (grid x height scale factor / 1) to each point, to convert GNSS data to ground and vice-versa? Thanks!
Hi Iztoniolo, here is video on grid to ground. Let me know if that isn't what you are looking for: ua-cam.com/video/cqGlsgbeF-U/v-deo.html
@@benchmarkequipment I guess this is what I was looking for. I guess fieldgenius applies a combined scale factor for every point, scaling it from base right? It's not clear enough from where those combined scale factors are applied. Do you know how precise this is compared to using GNSS site calibration using control points measured with total station? The only way to get more precise GNSS measurements is to use site calibration or combined scale factors to convert from grid to ground are good enough? Any thoughts on this would be awesome and there is no article or video on UA-cam about this subject. Thanks!
Hi @@lztoniolo, I followed up with MicroSurvey on this point and this what they had to say: "I see. FieldGenius does not really compute that at each point, instead it uses whatever scale factor computed in the localization as an average. Our STAR*NET program can compute combined scale factors at each point, but that is if he is wanting to do some Least-Square adjustments." Let me know if anything needs clarification. - Nolan
